Site Planning

First Steps

Choose your web designer wisely

Your website is a reflection of you and your organization or company. You want a website with professional graphics and professional coding so your website looks good on different computers, devices and browsers. Think of your website as a marketing investment.

Organize the structure of your website

Besides the Home Page and About Us page, what additional content pages do you want? To help plan your site organization, take a look at the websites of similar organizations or businesses.

Write the content for each page of your site

Oftentimes, writing the content can help solidify the organization of your site as well.

Second Steps

Select photos for your site

Find photos applicable to your organization or business that you might want in your website header or in your content pages. You can either let us know which photos to associate with which page or provide us with several possible photos and let us decide where best to use them.

Need photos?

Visualize your website’s layout

Think about colors and shape. Do you prefer angular, minimalist designs, or rounded designs with a great deal of shadow and depth? Muted or bright colors? Let us know of any other websites you really like and why.

Third Steps

Plan your website maintenance

For more information, please read maintaining your website.

  • We create websites with WordPress, which allows you to maintain your own website. Although WordPress is often thought of as “blogging software”, your website does not need to look “bloggy” when you have a custom-designed theme. WordPress can function as a content management system and is easily managed via any browser. And we include custom programming to make WordPress even easier to use.
  • We can also create your website in Adobe Dreamweaver (static web pages). In this case, you will need to have someone on your staff who has Dreamweaver and can edit web pages. Adobe no longer maintains the Adobe Contribute software for managing websites.

Final Steps

Sign a web design contract.

We require a 10-50% down payment of the estimated quote before beginning the design process.

Review your website during the design process

We will upload your web files to a temporary site on our domain so you may view the site during the design process and give feedback. Please note: requests for extensive or multiple changes to the design may necessitate additional costs.

Obtain a hosting account with a web host

We can help you determine what type of hosting account you will need. If you do not already have a domain name, you can purchase your domain name through your web host as well. Third-party web hosts include GoDaddy.com. Bluehost.com, Dreamhost.com, etc.

Set up an FTP account with your host

Make sure to record the FTP hostname, username, and password. We need this information in order to upload your custom web files to your host’s server.

Approve your site and enjoy the praise!

We will upload your web files to your host server and finalize the site’s setup. Your new site will be live to the world. Any final tweaks will be done. We will then submit our final invoice.
